Thursday, October 14th, 2021

On Saturday, October 9, 2021, the Georgia National Fair, with co-sponsorship from the Georgia Department of Agriculture, hosted its annual Legislative Livestock Showdown. The Senate team, captained by Sen. Larry Walker (R – Perry) and made up of Sens. Jason Anavitarte (R -- Dallas), Sheikh Rahman (D – Lawrenceville), Kim Jackson (D – Stone Mountain) and Max Burns (R -- Sylvania) won the Legislative Livestock Showdown, while Sen. Max Burns placed first individually in the showmanship competition.

“Each day, I am proud to be able to work with my fellow legislators, but it is particularly special when we’re able to do so in the heart of Perry and to support Georgia’s top industry,” said Sen. Walker. “The Annual Legislative Showdown is a chance for friendly competition, but it’s also an opportunity for elected officials throughout the state to show their support for our youth development programs like 4-H and FFA. By being able to participate in an event such as this, we are able to see all of the hard work and dedication our youth put into showing livestock and whether you are from Atlanta or Middle Georgia, everyone can appreciate the time and effort these young people dedicate to their show animals.”

The 2021 Georgia National Fair is currently being held until October 17, 2021 at the Georgia National Fairgrounds and Agriculture Center in Perry, GA. The Legislative Livestock Showdown is an annual event held between the two chambers of the General Assembly and in conjunction with members of Georgia’s 4-H and FFA organizations.
