On Friday, November 11, the Senate Majority Caucus held elections on caucus leadership positions for the 2023-2024 Legislative Session.

The leadership positions will be as follows:

Majority Leader: Sen. Steve Gooch (R – Dahlonega)
Majority Whip: Sen. Randy Robertson (R – Cataula)
Majority Caucus Chair: Sen. Jason Anavitarte (R – Dallas)
Majority Caucus Vice Chair: Sen. Matt Brass (R – Newnan)
Majority Caucus Treasurer: Sen. Dean Burke (R – Bainbridge)

Additionally, the Senate Majority Caucus nominated Sen. John F. Kennedy (R – Macon) to serve as President Pro Tempore of the Senate. His nomination will be voted upon by the Senate once the Legislate Session begins on January 9, 2023.

“I am honored to receive the nomination by the Majority Caucus to serve as the President Pro Tempore of the Georgia Senate,” said Sen. Kennedy. “The upcoming legislative session will be a historic one, with new leaders in both the Senate and the House. However, I see this as a great opportunity to forge new partnerships and build on the great work of our predecessors to continue to grow our state. I am humbled that my colleagues in the Majority Caucus have put their trust in me to help guide our chamber through this period of change and, if elected by the Senate in January, I look forward to working with all senators, staff and others in the General Assembly to continue to advance our state.”

“Over the past few years, the General Assembly has taken important and necessary steps to grow our economy, prioritize the education of Georgia’s children, and address the disparity in access to critical resources, such as high-speed broadband internet and quality healthcare, in rural Georgia,” said Sen. Gooch. “As Majority Leader, the Senate will continue to lead on these issues and find the innovative solutions necessary to keep Georgia the best state in the nation to live, work and raise a family. I am humbled my colleagues have placed their trust in me and I look forward to working together on a productive legislative session.”
