Georgia Public Service Commission to Hold Portrait Hanging Ceremony for Former Chairman Wise

The Georgia Public Service Commission will hold a portrait hanging ceremony for Stan Wise, a former Chairman of the PSC, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 19.

The unveiling of the portrait will take place in the hallway outside the Commission Hearing Room, 244 Washington Street, Room 110.

Wise is the third former PSC Chairman to be honored with a portrait in the Commission’s hall. In 2021, former Chairman David Burgess was honored with a portrait unveiling. Chairman Burgess was the first African American to serve as a Commissioner. Fulton County Superior Court Judge Chuck Eaton, also a former PSC chairman, was honored with a portrait in 2023.

“Stan Wise was well liked by his staff and respected by fellow regulators and industry leaders,” said PSC Chairman Jason Shaw. “He remains a respected voice on energy matters in Georgia and nationally.”

Wise served on the Public Service Commission beginning in January 1995, before stepping down on February 20, 2018. He was elected statewide four consecutive times and was reelected for his fourth term as Commissioner in November 2012. In 2003, Wise was elected president of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC).
 
Prior to his time on the Public Service Commission, Wise first held elected public office in 1990 as a Cobb County Commissioner, serving through 1994. Prior to his time on the Cobb Commission he served the county as a member of the Cobb County Planning Commission and the Board of Zoning Appeals. Wise also served as a Board Member of the ten-county Atlanta Regional Commission from 1992 through 1994.
 
In 2023, Gov. Brian Kemp appointed Wise to the state ethics commission, known as the Georgia Government Transparency and Campaign Finance Commission.
