The Georgia Hospital Association (GHA) released its annual economic impact data, highlighting the $137 billion Georgia hospitals contribute to the state’s economy. This is a $15 billion, or 12.3%, increase from the prior year. This update is based on 2023 data and uses an independent third party’s modeling.

The number one priority of Georgia hospitals is providing high-quality care to Georgians. Through this mission to provide care, hospitals also strengthen the state and local communities, infusing billions of dollars annually into the economy. For every dollar hospitals spend, $2.32 is generated in state and local economic activity. In addition to fueling $137 billion in economic activity, Georgia hospitals also create or support over 588,000 good-paying, full- and part-time jobs.

“Hospitals are first and foremost places of care, but they are also economic engines, supporting and sustaining communities and economic growth,” said GHA President and CEO Caylee Noggle. “These numbers underscore the extensive financial boost that Georgia hospitals provide to theentire state. ”

GHA’s economic impact data includes total jobs supported, combined salaries and wages, and direct and indirect expenditures.

“Hospitals in every corner of our state are dedicated to serving their communities, both inside the hospitals’ walls with direct patient care and as community anchors that sustain and encourage economic prosperity,” said GHA Board Chair Scott Steiner. “Hospitals are part of the critical infrastructure that help keep Georgia thriving.”
