April Georgia Department of Transportation project awards are bringing $7 million worth of infrastructure improvements for Evans, Glynn and Liberty counties.

The following projects were awarded on April 3, 2020.

Evans County: Gregory Bridge Company was awarded the $2.171 million construction contract to rebuild the State Route (SR) 169 bridge over Cedar Creek four miles northwest of Claxton. Once underway, the work requires an off-site detour using SR 30, SR 129 and SR 169 for a total of 11 miles. The structure, built in 1957, is posted for weight restrictions and doesn't fit modern standards. The new bridge will have 12-foot lanes and 8-foot shoulders. Completion is expected by March 31, 2021.

Glynn County: L.C. Whitford Company will rehab the SR 25 SPUR bridge over the Back River for $337,887. This project has an October 31, 2020 completion date. The structure is located on F. J. Torras Causeway connecting to St. Simons Island. Work will include repairing beams, renovating the existing deck and sealing bridge joints to extend the life of the bridge.

Liberty County: Apac Atlantic Inc. was the approved bidder at $4.59 million to repave the 12.5-mile section of US 84/SR 38 from east of Doc Martin Road to east of I-95. The contract completion date is Feb. 28, 2021. This is a major highway between Midway and Flemington that carries average daily traffic volumes of 23,000 vehicles.
