Georgia DOT Accountability and Investment Report Available Online

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) released today its Fiscal Year 2020 (FY 2020) Accountability and Investment Report, a transparent look at GDOT’s funding, performance measures, operations, projects and initiatives during the fiscal year. The document highlights how funding is used strategically and how the Department is utilizing those funds to meet the transportation needs of the state. Access the complete report here. “In spite of the challenges created by COVID-19 in the final quarter of FY20, GDOT did not miss a beat as we made major adjustments to continue our essential services to the state of Georgia and those who use the state’s infrastructure,” said Russell R. McMurry, P.E. Commissioner, Georgia Department of Transportation. “This report showcases our continued commitment to deliver the highest level of service for the citizens and travelers in Georgia.”

Highlights from the report include:

  • How Georgia DOT continues to make safety a number one priority. Safety projects in FY20 included replacement of structurally deficient bridges, installation of cable barriers and rumble strips, and construction of reduced conflict U-turns (R-CUTs) intersections and roundabouts. GDOT’s Drive Alert Arrive Alive and See and Be Seen campaigns addressed overall fatalities and pedestrian safety. “Recognizing the Risk’ classroom curriculum for Georgia middle school students about road safety.

  • The impact of projects like the opening the first Major Mobility Investment Program project, the I-85 Widening Phase 1, continued reconstruction of the I-16/I-75 interchange projects in Macon, the Transform 285/400 interchange, and major rural corridors such as US 441 and SR 133.

  • GDOT’s continued national leadership in preparing for state transportation infrastructure with over 565 traffic signals outfitted for connected vehicles.

  • Continuation of the Transportation Investment Act (TIA) program including the approval for another 10 years of investment in the Central Savannah River Area (SCRA) with an outstanding passage rate of 71 percent.

  • Hosting 1,500 professionals at the Southeastern Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (SASHTO) annual meeting in Savannah.
