Brunswick’s Rate Decreases in April

Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Thursday that Brunswick saw a decrease in the unemployment rate for April.

“We had another strong month in April,” said Commissioner of Labor Mark Butler. “We saw the unemployment rate decrease in almost every MSA, along with an over the month and over the year decrease in initial claims for every MSA.”   

In Brunswick, the unemployment rate decreased by 0.2 percentage points in April, reaching 3.6 percent. A year ago, the rate was 15.3 percent.

The labor force decreased in Brunswick by 534 and ended the month with 52,714. That number is up 3,491 when compared to April of 2020.

Brunswick finished the month with 50,795 employed residents.  That number decreased by 412 over the month and is up by 9,104 when compared to the same time a year ago.

Brunswick ended April with 42,700 jobs. That number decreased by 400 from March to April and increased by 6,400 when compared to this time last year.

The number of unemployment claims went down by 2 percent in Brunswick. When compared to last April, claims were down by about 91 percent.

Employ Georgia, the GDOL’s online job listing service at employgeorgia.com showed about 648 active job postings in metro Brunswick for April.
