Brunswick Sees Rise in August Unemployment Rate

Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Thursday that Brunswick recorded an unemployment rate of 3.1 percent in August, up four-tenths of a percent over the month. A year ago, the rate was 3.9 percent.
“As we look toward the fall, we are committed to supporting the workforce as employers search for seasonal, full-time, and part-time employees to fill vacancies in preparation for the holiday employment season,” said Commissioner Mark Butler.
The labor force decreased in Brunswick by 167 and ended the month with 53,162. That number increased by 235 when compared to August of 2021.
Brunswick finished the month with 51,540 employed residents. That number decreased by 375 over the month and went up 678 when compared to the same time a year ago.
Brunswick ended August with 45,700 jobs. That number went up 200 from July to August and increased by 1,600 when compared to this time last year.
The number of unemployment claims decreased by 3 percent in Brunswick in August. When compared to last August, claims were down by about 72 percent.
Employ Georgia, the GDOL’s online job listing service at employgeorgia.com showed about 452 active job postings in Brunswick for August.
