Brunswick Sees Drop in September Unemployment Rate

Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Thursday that Brunswick recorded an unemployment rate of 2.5 percent in September, down five-tenths of a percent over the month. A year ago, the rate was 3.1 percent.
"We continue to see a steady rise in job creation and demand by employers to fill open positions,” said Commissioner Mark Butler. “This strong growth has led to Georgia having the fewest unemployed residents in over 20 years."
The labor force decreased in Brunswick by 98 and ended the month with 53,183. That number increased by 620 when compared to September of 2021.
Brunswick finished the month with 51,837 employed residents. That number increased by 178 over the month and went up 905 when compared to the same time a year ago.
Brunswick ended September with 45,600 jobs. That number went down 200 from August to September and increased by 1,900 when compared to this time last year.
The number of unemployment claims decreased by 6 percent in Brunswick in September. When compared to last September, claims were down by about 40 percent.
