Southeast Georgia Health System Volunteer Services recently announced Wanda Harden as the Brunswick Campus Summer Volunteer of the Quarter and Sharon Bodford as the Camden Campus Summer Volunteer of the Quarter.

Harden began volunteering at the Brunswick Campus Gift Shop in August 2016 after retiring from a career in the banking industry.
“It was evident soon after she joined the Gift Shop team that Wanda was a great addition,” says Peggy Tuten, president, Volunteer Services, Brunswick Campus. “Wanda’s previous experience with customer service and finance enabled her to quickly learn the processes. Her calm and welcoming demeanor puts customers at ease.”

According to Kristin Doll, CAVS, CDVS director, Volunteer Services, Harden is always willing to pitch in and help where needed. Her willingness to provide additional help was especially appreciated in 2021 when she offered to assist a fellow volunteer with the tasks of receiving and pricing Gift Shop merchandise.

Harden has spent her whole life in Georgia and currently resides in Brunswick. When she’s not volunteering, she enjoys reading, taking walks and doing yard work. She recently began working part-time at The Club on St. Simons Island.

Bodford began volunteering at the Health System’s Camden Campus in November 2021, shortly after retiring from a 38-year career in government service. “At the time she joined us we were very much in need of additional volunteer help in the Gift Shop and we were thrilled when she chose to volunteer there,” says Kathleen Worthing, president, Camden Campus Volunteer Services. “Sharon is friendly and helpful to everyone who steps inside the Gift Shop and she makes everyone feel like a special guest.”

Doll adds, “In the short time that Sharon has been a volunteer, she has helped with special projects, such as the Health System’s community health fair, as well as fundraising sales. She also recently took on an additional volunteer shift in the Outpatient Laboratory after finding out that they were without a volunteer on Monday mornings.”

Bodford and her husband of 37 years, Eugene, reside in Woodbine with their dogs, Charlie, a bulldog mix, and Sammie, an Australian cattle dog. Bodford currently volunteers with the Board of Elections as an assistant to the Election Supervisor. When she’s not busy volunteering, she enjoys watching old western movies and loves to fish in streams, creeks, ponds and rivers.

More than 150 volunteers generously share their time and talents to assist patients, visitors, and team members at the Southeast Georgia Health System Brunswick and Camden campuses, as well as the Senior Care Centers in Brunswick and St. Marys.
