Brunswick Sees Slight Uptick in June Unemployment Rate

Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson said Thursday that Brunswick recorded an unemployment rate of 3.3 percent in June, up one-tenth of a percent from May. A year ago, the rate was 3.3 percent. 

“The bedrock of a thriving economy lies in maintaining low unemployment, but equally essential is striking the right balance between job growth and a capable workforce that can meet the evolving needs of Georgia’s industries,” said Commissioner Bruce Thompson. “This well-balanced approach ensures businesses of all sizes have the talent they need to grow and succeed." 

The labor force decreased in Brunswick by 51 and ended the month with 54,793. That number increased by 1,311 when compared to June of 2022.

Brunswick finished the month with 53,003 employed residents. That number decreased by 93 over-the-month and went up by 1,283 when compared to the same time a year ago.

Brunswick’s job numbers held steady over-the-month with 48,000 jobs. That number increased by 2,100 when compared to this time last year.

In June, initial unemployment claims increased by 5 percent in Brunswick. When you compare June 2023 claims to June 2022, claims were down by 52 (-29%).
