A brand new poll from InsiderAdvantage shows that Republican voters would like to see a familiar name back in the speaker’s office – former Georgia U.S. Rep. Newt Gingrich.
House Republicans are scrambling to fill the seat after U.S. Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-CA, was ousted from the position yesterday as a group of Republican congressmen sided with Democrats to force his removal. Gingrich is eligible for the job because the position of House Speaker does not require that the individual serving be an elected member of that legislative body.
Former President Donald Trump’s name was not included because he has in the past stated that he has no interest in the position. McCarthy, likewise has said he will not attempt to regain the seat.
The survey was conducted October 3rd and has a margin of error of +/- 3.36%. Crosstabs can be found HERE
The Results:
Newt Gingrich: 53%
Jim Jordan: 11%
Steve Scalise: 3%
Tom Emmer: 2%
Elie Stafanik: 2%
Tom Cole: 1%
Garrett Graves:1%
Undecided: 27%
