September Unemployment Rate Drops in Brunswick

Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson said Thursday that Brunswick recorded an unemployment rate of 3.2 percent in September, down five-tenths of a percent over the month. A year ago, the rate was 2.8 percent.

 "Georgia reigns as the ultimate destination for business and economic opportunity," said Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson. "However, with recent workforce reductions at Geico, Yellow Freight, and other companies throughout the state, we need to be cognizant of the financial pressures creating some instability within our existing business community. In today's ever-shifting global market, we must remain vigilant and lead with innovation."

The labor force decreased in Brunswick by 270 and ended the month with 55,023. That number went up by 1,583 when compared to September of 2022.

Brunswick finished the month with 53,288 employed residents. That number increased by 16 over-the-month and rose by 1,318 when compared to the same time a year ago.

Brunswick ended September with 47,700 jobs. That number decreased by 500 from August to September and rose by 1,200 when compared to this time last year.

In September, initial unemployment claims increased by 70 (42%) in Brunswick. When you compare September 2023 claims to September 2022, claims were up by 91 (62%).
