Metro Brunswick Unemployment Rate Falls in September

The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that the three-county Brunswick Metropolitan Statistical Area recorded an unemployment rate of 3.0% in September, down two-tenths over the month. A year ago, the rate was 2.9%.

“Unemployment in Georgia dropped across nearly every region in September," said Labor Commissioner Bárbara Rivera Holmes. "As we approach the end of the year, we’re staying focused on keeping workers ready, businesses strong, and opportunity growing across the state.”

The labor force in Brunswick was down 285 over the month and up 104 over the year, totaling 56,160.

Brunswick finished the month with 54,491 employed residents, down 146 from August but up 60 from September 2024.

Brunswick ended September with 49,700 jobs. That number decreased by 500 from the previous month and rose by 600 from the same time last year.

In September, initial unemployment claims were up by 39 from the previous month and rose by 51 from the same month a year ago, totaling 182.
