Metro Brunswick Sees Rise in January Unemployment
Wednesday, April 15th, 2026
The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that the three-county Brunswick Metropolitan Statistical Area recorded an unemployment rate of 3.1% in January, up three-tenths over the month. A year ago, the rate was 3.1%. January’s increases in unemployment rates across the state reflect historical patterns as many seasonal and holiday-related positions come to an end.
“Georgia’s diversified economy is one of our greatest competitive advantages,” said Georgia Labor Commissioner Bárbara Rivera Holmes. “That mix of industries and talent allows us to respond quickly to shifting workforce demands across sectors while continuing to expand opportunity for hardworking Georgians — a strength that helps Georgia remain a top state for business and talent.”
The labor force in Brunswick was down 375 over the month and up 1,355 over the year, totaling 56,268.
Brunswick finished the month with 54,533 employed residents, down 536 over the month and up 1,301 from a year ago.
Brunswick ended January with 49,300 jobs. That number decreased by 900 from the previous month and rose by 1,300 from the same time last year.
In January, initial unemployment claims increased 3 from the previous month and by 3 from the same month a year ago, totaling 154.
