The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that the three-county Brunswick Metropolitan Statistical Area’s labor force reached a record high in August, while the over-the-month unemployment rate rose three-tenths of a percentage point to 3.0%. A year ago, the rate was 3.3%.

“Georgia’s economy continues to deliver,” said Georgia Labor Commissioner Barbara Rivera Holmes. “Across the state, we’re seeing a strong labor force and regional growth that reflects an economy rewarding hard work, encouraging job creation and removing unnecessary barriers. As we build Georgia into a Top State for Talent, we’re creating a place where people can work, businesses can invest and communities can thrive.”

The labor force in Brunswick was up 139 over the month and up by 1,648 over the year, totaling 58,421, an all-time high.

Brunswick finished the month with 56,657 employed residents, down 26 over the month and up by 1,735 from a year ago.

Brunswick ended August with 50,700 jobs. That number decreased by 200 from the previous month and was up by 400 from the same time last year.

In August, initial unemployment claims were up by 21 from the previous month and were down by 7 from the same month a year ago, totaling 136.
