Making your health care wishes known today can provide clarity and peace of mind for you and your loved ones in the future. Southeast Georgia Health System is helping community members take this important step by hosting Health Care Directive Fairs at its Camden and Brunswick campuses.

A Health Care Directive, also known as an advance directive, is a legal document that allows you to outline your medical preferences if you are unable to communicate them yourself. It also allows you to name a health care agent who can make medical decisions on your behalf.

Without a written directive, loved ones may be asked to make difficult health care decisions during an already stressful time. Documenting your wishes can help reduce uncertainty and ensure your preferences are understood.

The Health System will host a Health Care Directive Fair on Tuesday, Sept. 1, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. in the Conference Center at the Camden Campus, 2000 Dan Proctor Drive, St. Marys. A second fair will be held at the Brunswick Campus on Thursday, Sept. 10, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. in the Linda S. Pinson Conference Center Room 1, 2415 Parkwood Drive, Brunswick.

Health Care Directive forms will be available at both events, and representatives will be on site to answer questions. Attendees may complete their directive during the fair or return it to Medical Records at a later date to have it added to their permanent medical record.

Individuals submitting a completed Health Care Directive for inclusion in their medical record should bring a photo ID.
