Okefenokee Swamp Park to Kickoff Black History Month with CCC Company 1433 Project Launch
Friday, February 9th, 2024
On Thursday, February 1, the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge and Okefenokee Swamp Park will hold a virtual webinar for the launch of the CCC Company 1433 Project--the all Black unit that laid the groundwork for the Swamp's infrastructure and opened it up to tourism and recreation in the late 1930s and early 1940s. In July, the Okefenokee Swamp Park secured nearly $500,000 in federal funding to launch the historical preservation project and tell this untold story. The webinar is open to media, stakeholders, and members of the general public, and will include a special video announcement from one of Georgia's U.S. Senators.
