Adam Yong, CEO of Agility Writer, shares the top ten US states most actively using AI at work. According to him, these states are harnessing AI to reshape their economic landscapes and create smarter, more adaptive work environments.

Illinois emerges as the clear leader, with a strong 10.98% of its population engaging with AI-related queries.
Georgia and Wisconsin follow closely, boasting adoption rates of 7.43% and 5.17% respectively.
Texas and Nevada round out the top five, while Washington, Utah, California, Arizona and Oregon complete the top ten states most actively using AI.
Industries Driving AI Adoption
The top 10 states are integrating AI across various sectors due to their economic landscapes and industry focuses.
Adam explains that Illinois is leading with AI in finance and manufacturing, while Georgia’s thriving tech scene is driving AI in software development and cybersecurity. “Wisconsin is leveraging AI in healthcare and agriculture and Texas is adopting AI usage in energy, healthcare, and tech, while Nevada is focused on entertainment and tourism”, he explains.
Utah’s dynamic startup culture is fostering AI advancements in software and data analytics. California, a global tech hub, spearheads AI innovations in autonomous vehicles and biotechnology. Arizona is utilizing AI in advanced manufacturing and healthcare, and Oregon is making strides with AI in tech and environmental sustainability.
Economic and Job Market Impacts
The economic impact of AI adoption in these states is significant.
Job markets are evolving, with increased demand for AI specialists, data scientists, and machine learning engineers. Simultaneously, traditional roles are being augmented or transformed by AI capabilities.
Adam says, “The states leading in AI adoption are positioning themselves at the forefront of the next industrial revolution. We're seeing increased productivity, innovation, and the creation of entirely new job categories. However, it's crucial that this transition is managed thoughtfully to ensure inclusive economic growth.”
